Dedicated
facilities
- really a school? Who owns the buildings? |
|
Specific
facilities, good layouts, excellent equipment are necessary to host
excellent teachers. A hotel is a hotel ... a school is a school. A
campus is not primarily designed to sleep :-). An old something used
as teaching facilities will not reach the standard of specific buildings.
Ownership of the buildings is the best guaranty for survival. A strong
school has strong stone foundation!
|
Quality
of programs - relevant
for management? What are the teachers qualifications? |
|
This
question is "right to the point"! It is also the most difficult
to assess from outside. Excellence found in the other questions will
give some clues about excellence on this point. Good facilities, international
success, alumni worldwide in high position, strong relation to the
industry stand proof for adequate programs and excellent teachers
|
International
exposure - nationalities
on campus? Majority of Europeans?
Hospitality is an international industry - customers are from around
the World. International exposure gives the best chance to succeed.
|
|
The edge given
by studies abroad is to get international and multicultural exposure.
This is granted with more than 50 nationalities on campus. A concentration
of just 4 or 5 countries (even with more different passports) is
not international enough.
If a school pretends to be famous - especially in Europe - it will
attract a majority of European students. They have the opportunity
to visit the schools and get better information. If they don't like
the institution ... they don't register.
The proportion of Europeans gives a fair appraisal of the reputation
of the school in Europe.
|
Strong
alumni family -
where are the former students?
Powerful and friendly helping hands all around the world
|
|
Alumni
(former students) holding senior positions around the world are a
great support. Presidents, GM and owners of prestigious hotels and
businesses, in many countries, are the obvious warranty for the excellence
in education. This family of influent people is also of great help
for jobs and careers.

Established
and recognized
- years in existence? ASEH member, accreditations, links to the professional
world, non-relevant memberships?
Education
also has his brand names. It is not enough to have any BA or Diploma.
Professionals know which institution provides top graduates, they
are not fooled by titles.
Rome was not built overnight!
|
|
Membership
of ASEH is by quality evaluation. This will give candidates the
guaranty that the chosen institution reaches at least a minimum
standard. Most other "memberships" are not relevant. It's
just a matter of paying the fees (so what?).
The most important accreditation is by the Hotel Industry. Academic
recognition and acceptance in prestigious Universities also proves
excellence in teaching and in the program. It is important to asses
the quality of the links. What's the point to get an easy transfer
... to a low quality institution?
Experience,
quality and reputation come with time
and that's what is needed
to become famous and recognized. The point is not the age of the
(rented) building or even of the owner :-) How long does the institution
already exists (as a proper Hotel Management School). Quality can
only be guaranteed by schools established for a number of years.
|
Great
for jobs
- campus recruitment, alumni support, relation in the professional
World?
Excellent education is
the gateway to good jobs an great careers
|
|
It's
good to be lucky ... but in life relations can also help a lot! Excellent
institutions have great links to the industry and to employers. Ask
for references.
Efficient help will be provided during the studies and later in life
for the career. Ask how this is done.
|
What's
the value -
forget the price, consider what you get?
Discounts traps or dubious scholarships are
means to fool people
If it's cheaper and without value it's to expensive. |
|
The
prices is not the best criteria to assess the value. What is really
offered in term of content, quality, reputation, environment? Price
miracle are seldom. How is it possible to make a quality education
cheaper?
Beware of discounts and "Scholar Cheats". What is missing
when the price is reduced? Will this also be missing as a boost to
your career?
|
Is
it True -
are the collected information relevant and correct?
|
|

that you got enough information. How reliable is it! Forget all the
marketing gimmicks and get at least one "real" information!
